Carver
Grasshopper plugin for an architecture firm
Populous is a multinational architecture company specialising in the design of entertainment facilities. As part of a Global Digital Strategy, I collaborated on a strategic vision and lead the early stages development of the company’s Grasshopper plugin.
Strategic Vision
We proposed a strategic model where all computational designers across the three regions would work collaboratively, building workflows and tools under the management of Digital rather than local project teams. Core to this was a central repository of code for custom RhinoInside Revit Grasshopper components.
PopulousTools
First we focused on building the installer, training materials and security features, as well managing the bidirectional transfer of Floors and Grids between Rhino and Revit. This then began to evolve into “The Bowl Tool”, which helped architects save time on the design of stadium bowls, vomitories and seating. The early WIP nickname “PopulousTools” was eventually changed to “Carver” after my involvement.
